30 May – 5 June 2016

Following a successful launch in 2015, Block Universe returned for its second edition with a week-long celebration of performance art by local and international artists across major institutions. With new commissions and presentations that took place at venues such as the British Museum, DRAF (David Roberts Art Foundation), ICA, Royal Academy of Arts, Sadler’s Wells and Somerset House, as well as unique off-site locations, Block Universe continues to present work by some of the most exciting UK-based and international performance artists practicing today.

With the theme of The Future Perfect, performances explored relationality in a mediated society, the construction of identity alongside body enhancement, aging and immortality. Using the motifs of shared experience, relationality, individualism and anonymity as experienced through technology to locate the virtual in physical time and space, artists focussed on historical and future representations of the self as embodied in the present.

This year’s edition of Block Universe was  accompanied by a public programme consisting of talks and workshops.

Block Universe is delighted to announce Gaia Art Foundation as Principal Supporter for the 2016 edition.
